Cancer Council Queensland is the state's foremost non-government cancer organisation, dedicated to uniting Queenslanders in the fight against cancer. Our core objective is to foster a partnership that brings together communities, researchers, health professionals, and supporters to lessen the impact of cancer on individuals' lives. Established in 1961 as the Queensland Cancer Fund, we have evolved into a respected leader in cancer research, prevention, and support. Our daily efforts aim to prevent cancer, facilitate early detection, enhance treatment outcomes, and ensure that those affected by cancer receive necessary care and support, irrespective of their location.

As a component of the Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP), Cancer Council Queensland will expand avenues for Australians impacted by cancer and life-limiting or terminal illnesses to access support and information tailored to their needs, both presently and in the future. Building upon our established 13 1 20 confidential cancer information and support service, the Cancer Navigation Service functions as a primary access point, connecting individuals with specialised support, including healthcare professionals, dedicated cancer organisations, in-language services, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health services. This service operates seven days a week, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The Cancer Council Navigator role is responsible for delivering Cancer Council’s Cancer Navigation and PalAssist Services within Queensland. This involves providing comprehensive, evidence-based information and support to individuals affected by cancer, as well as those managing life-limiting or terminal illnesses. The role serves as a key point of contact via telephone and digital platforms, offering guidance, connections, and referrals to appropriate services. The Navigator collaborates with professionals, community members, and individuals from diverse backgrounds to ensure equitable access to timely, evidence-based support, information, and referrals. This position is advertised as Permanent Full-time, with part-time hours being a consideration.

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Health (Nursing, Allied Health, Social Work, or related disciplines).
• Experience working within a clinical/health service or community health environment.
• Experience in assessing patient/client needs and making appropriate referrals to health professionals, community services, and non-government organisations, employing problem-solving skills and a client-centred approach.
• Advanced verbal and listening skills, with the capacity to build professional rapport and trust, engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, and maintain appropriate boundaries.
• Experience in providing psychosocial and information support.
• Experience in an oncology and/or palliative care setting is not essential, but will be highly regarded.
