Clinical Nurse Consultant – Leukaemia

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH)

Location: Parkville Work Type: Part-time, On-site

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) operates with a vision of “A world where all kids thrive”. Serving Victoria's children and young people for over 150 years since its establishment in 1870, RCH offers a comprehensive suite of paediatric and adolescent health services, including tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients across Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW, and other Australian and international locations. The hospital employs over 6,000 staff, manages a budget of $850M, and comprises 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, RCH sees more than 300,000 Specialist Clinic appointments, over 90,000 Emergency Department presentations, and approximately 20,000 elective surgeries. Job Title: Clinical Nurse Consultant – Leukaemia

About the Role

This is a part-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, equivalent to 0.6 FTE or 45.6 hours per fortnight, within the Children’s Cancer Centre. As a member of the Advanced Practice Nursing team in the Children’s Cancer Centre, the Clinical Nurse Consultant – Leukaemia will collaborate with Consultant Paediatric Oncologists – Leukaemia, and CNC & NP – Leukaemia to deliver comprehensive and coordinated care to patients and their families. The role will concentrate on inpatient patient and family care coordination and education. The classification for this position ranges from ZF4 to ZJ4 ($121,695.60 - $128,102.00 per annum, pro rata).

  • Integrate clinical expertise with leadership and educational capabilities to offer comprehensive care, support, and guidance to patients and healthcare teams.
  • Contribute to fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Leukaemia stream.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to family-centred care.

Skills and Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), administered through the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record or Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP).
  • Postgraduate qualification in the area of practice, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Proven capacity to apply advanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills to complex patient care scenarios.

The Children’s Cancer Centre is the sole provider of complex children's cancer care and haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) in Victoria. It is recognised internationally as a leader in childhood cancer research and treatment.
