Salary: $118,297 to $125,543 pro rata, per annum + 12% superannuation. Salary packaging options are available.

Work Type: Part-time, permanent, day worker. Hours are up to 38 per fortnight and to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Location: Onsite, Burnie.

The Department of Health seeks a Clinical Nurse/Midwife Consultant – Lactation Consultant to join the North West Maternity Services (NWMS) team. The Team: North West Maternity Services operates across multiple sites, including the North West Regional Hospital, Mersey Community Hospital, and district hospitals on King Island, Smithton, and the West Coast. The team provides comprehensive maternity care, encompassing antenatal services, parenting education, birth, postnatal care, home support, and a Midwifery Group Practice model. The service includes a 4-bed birthing suite, a 20-bed inpatient ward, and an 8-bed special care nursery. Midwives collaborate closely with allied health professionals, such as lactation consultants, social workers, women’s health physiotherapists, diabetes educators, and perinatal mental health specialists. The team is dedicated to contemporary, woman and family-centred care and enhancing patient outcomes.

The Role: This position offers an exciting prospect to provide clinical leadership in contemporary lactation care within a progressive maternity service.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver advanced clinical care and specialist lactation consultancy within Women’s and Children’s Services in the North West.
  • Support and empower midwifery and nursing teams through education, mentorship, and skill development.
  • Build strong partnerships with women, families, and multidisciplinary teams to enhance care outcomes.
  • Collaborate across Tasmania to improve access to and continuity of lactation services.
  • Lead innovation, quality improvement, and research to strengthen clinical practice and service delivery.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Contribute to maintaining Baby Friendly Health Initiative accreditation across our services.

This role is for a clinician ready to make a significant impact within a close-knit team and a broader health service.

Details of Appointment: This is a permanent, part-time, day worker position, working up to 38 hours per fortnight, commencing from a mutually agreed date. Hours are to be negotiated with the successful applicant. This selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full-time, part-time, and casual vacancies for a period of twelve months from the date of publication.

Benefits:

  • Salary packaging is available for living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year, plus other benefits if eligible.
  • Travel and relocation assistance support is available: up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type may be available, calculated on the salaried incremental point.
