Rockhampton Hospital serves as the principal referral facility within Central Queensland. Its Maternity Service functions as the primary birthing centre for the region, facilitating approximately 1400 births annually. This level 4 maternity service encompasses an Antenatal Clinic for outpatient care and education, a 15-bed Antenatal/Postnatal ward for inpatient services and a maternity assessment unit, a 5-bed Birth Suite providing care during labour, birth, and high dependency needs, and a level 4 Special Care Nursery offering medium to high dependency care for neonates.

About the Role

The Registered Midwife (Caseload) position involves providing primary midwifery care for an all-risk caseload of up to 40 women per year. This role demands clinical expertise as a caseload Midwife, offering support to other midwives within the group practice to ensure the delivery of best practice, collaboration, and quality patient care for women and their families. Midwifery care is delivered in partnership with other healthcare providers, spanning the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth, and the post-partum period, both within Maternity Services and the community.

About You

Essential for this position is registration as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current annual practising certificate.

While not mandatory, the ability to work to the full scope of midwifery practice would be well regarded.

You must demonstrate the capacity to provide culturally appropriate caseload midwifery care to up to 40 women and their families across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.

Clinical skills in IV cannulation, water immersion in labour and waterbirth, perineal suturing, and speculum examination are required. If competence in these skills is not currently held, candidates must be willing to undertake the necessary training within six months of commencement.
