Registered Nurse (Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Service)

Department of Health - Queensland is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for its Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Service at Cairns Hospital. This is an onsite position.

About Us: The Cairns Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Service (CAMHIS) is an eight-bed unit scheduled to commence operations in early 2027. Currently, the CAMHIS team functions within the Paediatric / Adolescent Ward and also delivers care to young individuals in other wards, including the Adult Mental Health unit. CAMHIS provides inpatient care for individuals aged 13-17 years experiencing severe and/or complex mental health difficulties, requiring 24-hour clinical support and treatment, and who cannot be adequately or safely supported within the community. The team's objective is to deliver acute inpatient mental health treatment to young people in a safe and supervised setting during periods of acuity or mental illness exacerbation.

About Your Role:

  • Dispense, administer, and record medications within the ieMR system.
  • Monitor vital signs and blood sugars, documenting these in ieMR.
  • Recognise and respond to acute and/or physical deterioration in consumers.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with consumers founded on trust, warmth, and empathy.
  • Contribute to a safe, structured, and supervised environment designed to facilitate recovery.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop nursing care plans.
  • Liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and adhere to established treatment plans.
