Job Description

Registered Nurse (Blackwater)

Department of Health - Queensland is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse in Blackwater.

Join a team that prioritises mutual support within a welcoming rural community. Blackwater Hospital serves as a central point for a town where residents connect, support one another, and value their health services. Blackwater itself is a lively outback locale with a strong sense of local pride, featuring expansive skies, sporting clubs, events, and a lifestyle offering space, connection, and a genuine feeling of belonging. This role is ideal for those seeking meaningful rural practice, opportunities for broad clinical experience, and a lifestyle with room to breathe. Relocation assistance, short-term accommodation, and visa sponsorship are under consideration.

About Us: Blackwater Hospital is situated approximately 200km west of the Queensland coast, embedded within a close-knit rural community where care extends beyond the hospital. The Blackwater Multi-Purpose Health Service (MPHS) is a modest 16-bed facility, including 4 aged care beds, and is a trusted community cornerstone. It delivers acute inpatient care, emergency and accident services, pharmacy support, outpatient clinics, and urgent radiology. The setting means patients are frequently neighbours, friends, and familiar faces.

About the Role:

  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and person-centred nursing care to the Blackwater community across Emergency, Acute, and Residential Aged Care, often attending to familiar local individuals within a small-town context.
  • Utilise strong clinical judgement to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care within a busy rural MPHS environment, where daily activities vary and resources are extensive yet accessible.
  • Support and contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, and safety initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in a rural service such as Blackwater.
  • Develop your practice as part of a supportive rural team, enhancing confidence and capability while engaging in varied clinical roles, including participation in the on-call roster and responding to the distinct needs of a remote community.

About You:

  • Registered as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), demonstrating a commitment to providing safe, accountable, and person-centred care to the Blackwater community. Postgraduate qualifications are welcomed and valued.
  • Provide high-quality direct nursing care within a rural MPHS setting, taking responsibility for clinical practice and responding confidently to a wide spectrum of patient needs.
  • Employ evidence-based practice, robust clinical reasoning, and critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in a fast-paced and frequently evolving rural environment.
  • Exhibit leadership, collaboration, and clear communication within a close multidisciplinary team.

What We Offer: Total remuneration value of up to $127,861 p.a. comprises:

  • An hourly rate between $44.06 - $56.51 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading

Additional Benefits:

  • Ongoing Professional Development and Education Opportunities
  • Flexible Work-Life Balance and Variety
  • Relocation assistance, short-term accommodation, and visa sponsorship considered
  • Generous Salary Sacrificing Options
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Discounted Private Health Insurance
  • Fitness Passport

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Requirements: Employment for this role is conditional upon the employee being and remaining vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases as listed on the Role Description.

How to Apply: To submit your application, please provide:

  • Your current CV or resume, including referees.
  • A cover letter (1-2 pages) detailing how your experience, skills, and values align with the key responsibilities and expectations outlined in the Role Description.
