Department of Health - Queensland is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to join the North Ward & HDU team at Atherton Hospital.

This opportunity is located in Atherton and is remote.

About Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service: Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service manages a broad spectrum of health services across over 30 facilities in regional, rural, and remote areas, covering 142,900 square kilometres. The service operates with 95 percent self-sufficiency, with highly specialised acute services provided in Townsville and Brisbane.

Atherton Hospital provides emergency, general medical, surgical, low-risk maternity, cancer care, and renal dialysis services. The hospital has 56 inpatient beds, 10 emergency department treatment spaces, 5 HDU beds, 8 chemotherapy chairs, 8 dialysis chairs, and 5 maternity beds. Diagnostic support includes medical imaging, pharmacy, and pathology. Located in the Atherton Tablelands, the hospital is 1.5 hours from Cairns. Redeveloped in 2023, it also offers outreach services to Malanda, Millaa Millaa, Mount Garnet, Ravenshoe, Croydon, Forsayth, and Georgetown. Atherton is a gateway to attractions including waterfall walks, gourmet food and wine, wildlife, hiking, mountain biking, and water sports.

North Ward contains 18 general inpatient beds, including eight single rooms and a dedicated bariatric care room. The High Dependency Unit (HDU) has five beds equipped with cardiac monitoring. The ward also has three telemetry machines for continuous cardiac monitoring.

About Your Role: Patients are admitted to North Ward and HDU for various clinical needs, including assessment and monitoring, symptom management, functional rehabilitation, medication management, planning for self-care and home support, and palliative care.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting thorough initial and ongoing assessments of patients' physical and mental health status.
• Developing, implementing, and updating individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Maintaining the safety of recipients of healthcare services by identifying risks and undertaking safe work activities within the clinical practice environment.
