AO6 Senior Finance Officer

This is a contract opportunity for an AO6 Senior Finance Officer with a Queensland state government organisation located in the Brisbane CBD. The contract is until 18th December 2026, with potential for extension.
About the Role The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational financial services, ensuring data integrity and strict adherence to financial legislation, standards, policies, and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Financial Management & Compliance: Provide strategic and operational financial services, ensuring data integrity and strict adherence to financial legislation, standards, policies, and practices.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Reporting: Coordinate the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, forward estimates, and the ongoing analysis, forecasting, and reporting of departmental financial performance.
- Process Improvement & Business Innovation: Contribute to the continuous review, development, and implementation of business improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting processes.
- Executive Advisory & Financial Governance: Deliver expert advice and guidance to senior executives and staff on budget development and monitoring to ensure best-practice governance and quality outcomes.
- Research, Briefings & Financial Analysis: Undertake comprehensive research to prepare and deliver timely, high-quality reports, submissions, and briefings on complex financial management issues and impacts.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive financial initiatives and achieve departmental objectives.
- Project Management & Delivery: Participate actively in project teams and working groups, ensuring deliverables are met within agreed timeframes and align with business and client needs.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial management practices and processes, and/or qualifications in accounting or related disciplines.
- Previous experience with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Previous government experience is highly desirable, but not essential.
