APS4 Finance Officer - Canberra ACT

HorizonOne Recruitment is seeking an APS4 Finance Officer for an onsite, full-time role in Canberra ACT. This is an initial 12-month hourly rate contract, with potential for extension based on performance. The salary offered is $46/hr – $50/hr + Super.

This independent government agency is responsible for managing a critical Australian natural resource, balancing environmental, economic, and social considerations. Their work impacts millions of Australians, including local communities, industries, and First Nations people, while addressing climate change for future sustainability. As a Finance Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of core financial functions. This role presents an opportunity to advance your finance career within the APS, gain practical experience in financial processes, and support a significant organisation.

The Role

Your responsibilities will encompass:

• Processing accounts payable and receivable transactions accurately and promptly.
• Performing reconciliations and assisting with treasury activities.
• Ensuring adherence to payment deadlines and compliance requirements.
• Supporting external reporting obligations and financial control measures.
• Responding to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Identifying and escalating potential issues to management without delay.

The Ideal Person

You are a Finance Officer, Bookkeeper, or Assistant Accountant with a proven track record in accurately managing financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card administration, treasury, and other essential financial processes.

Desired Attributes

• A minimum of two years' experience in a finance administration or financial operations setting.
• Demonstrated experience in Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable.
• A solid understanding of financial and management accounting principles.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience with TechnologyOne will be highly regarded.

Suitable candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

• An APS4 Finance Officer experienced in accounts receivable, accounts payable, and credit card processes.
• A high-performing finance or accounts officer from the private sector with hands-on financial administration experience, seeking to transition into the APS.

Australian citizenship is a mandatory requirement for this position.
