Equis Australia Management Pty Ltd is seeking a Battery Trader to join the Energy Markets team. This full-time, hybrid role is based in Brighton.
Role Overview
The Battery Trader will contribute to the development and execution of the day-ahead and day-of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) revenue optimisation strategy. This involves developing and testing new strategies for implementation through the Battery Auto bidder. The position also offers the chance to collaborate with the Equis Analytics team to create market-leading in-house trading tools, leveraging commercial experience and analytical skills.
Working Hours
The role operates within the Equis Battery trading roster, with shifts covering:
- 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM (3 weekdays per week)
- 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM (3 weekdays per week)
- 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (every third weekend)
Work will be performed in a hybrid model, alternating between the Equis Trading Control Room and working from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Trading and Market Monitoring: Continuously monitor spot market conditions and adjust strategies in real-time.
- Back-testing & Simulation: Test strategies using historical data to evaluate performance and robustness.
- Data Analysis: Utilise in-house and third-party tools to identify risks and opportunities impacting spot prices, leading to improved trading decisions.
- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to refine models and improve execution efficiency.
- Other duties as may be reasonably requested.

Requirements
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience in electricity trading, energy markets, or quantitative trading, ideally within the National Electricity Market (NEM) or a comparable power market.
- Strong understanding of spot market dynamics, dispatch processes, and price formation.
- Experience developing and executing trading strategies, including monitoring markets and adjusting positions in real-time.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, including the use of historical data to test and refine trading strategies.
- Ability to work effectively with analytics and technical teams to improve trading tools and automated bidding strategies.
- Strong commercial judgement and decision-making in a fast-paced trading environment.
Desirable Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience trading or optimising Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or other flexible energy assets.
- Familiarity with auto-bidding or algorithmic trading tools used in electricity markets.
- Experience using analytical tools such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Knowledge of ancillary services markets (FCAS) and their interaction with energy trading strategies.
- Experience working within an energy trading or market operations environment.
