CAD Designer - Playground & Product Design

Aussie Play, a swiftly expanding Australian maker of playground and early learning equipment, designs, manufactures, and supplies innovative play products to childcare centres and schools across Australia.

We are seeking an experienced CAD Designer to join our team and fulfil a key role in the development of new products and custom play solutions. This position requires more than just drafting; we are looking for an individual who understands product manufacturing and can translate concepts into practical, efficient, and manufacturable designs.

About the Role You will collaborate closely with management, production staff, and customers to design new products, develop custom solutions, and enhance existing designs. Your involvement will span from concept to manufacture, contributing to ensuring our products are innovative, practical, cost-effective, and built to a high standard.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
• Develop new product concepts and improve existing designs.
• Create manufacturing documentation, including drawings, cut lists, and assembly details.
• Work with production staff to ensure designs are practical and efficient for manufacturing.
• Assist with custom playground and outdoor learning projects.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding materials and manufacturing processes.
• Participate in prototyping, testing, and product development.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in CAD design, specifically with Autodesk Fusion.
• Strong 3D modelling skills.
• Experience preparing manufacturing drawings.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and production methods.
• Ability to design products that are practical, efficient, and cost-effective to manufacture.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and solve problems.

Highly Regarded Experience

• Sheet metal fabrication.
• Timber products and cabinetry.
• Aluminium and steel fabrication.
• CNC machining.
• Tube bending.
• Product design and development.
• Furniture or playground manufacturing.
• Australian Standards and compliance requirements.

You recognise that effective design must also be manufacturable, efficient, and commercially viable. You enjoy collaborating with production teams, resolving challenges, and developing products that resonate with customers.
