Design the future of smart buildings in Sydney

Become part of Signify Dynalite’s R&D team in Sydney and engineer world-class connected lighting and building control systems. These systems are utilised in significant projects globally. In this position, you will manage designs from initial concept through to production, observing their implementation in real-world settings that enhance sustainability, efficiency, and human experience.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical/Mechatronics Design Engineer to join our Sydney Dynalite R&D Team. This team is part of Signify's global R&D, focusing on developing advanced Connected Building & Lighting Control solutions for a variety of applications worldwide, including residential, office, retail, hospitality, industrial, sports, and public indoor and outdoor spaces.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Take ownership of the mechanical design for new lighting control products, spanning concept, prototyping, validation, and production.
  • Develop designs that are robust and manufacturable, utilising plastics, sheet metal, and assemblies.
  • Construct and test prototypes within a hands-on laboratory setting.
  • Engage in close collaboration with electronics, firmware, and global R&D teams.
  • Contribute to system architecture and product innovation efforts.
  • Translate project requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Optimise product performance, reliability, and cost through design adjustments.

Your Team

You will be integrated into a collaborative R&D team based in Sydney, operating within our global innovation network. The Dynalite team comprises expertise in mechanical, electronics, embedded systems, and software, functioning in a dynamic environment where ideas rapidly progress from requirements to deployment.

Critical Experiences

We are looking for a professional with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, capable of working within a multi-disciplinary global R&D team.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in mechanical or mechatronic product design.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks being preferred.
  • Experience in designing for manufacturing processes, including injection moulded plastics, sheet metal, and assemblies.
  • Practical experience in prototyping and testing.
  • Familiarity with engineering validation processes such as DFMEA and DFM.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively across different disciplines.

Nice to have

  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator or comparable tools.
