PROFOUND - PEOPLE IN TECHNOLOGY is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a leading engineering business specialising in material handling projects. This role is based in Adelaide, SA.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A background in Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Project Management.
• Previous experience in materials handling, construction, mining, minerals processing, or a similar heavy engineering environment.
• A degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
• A strong understanding of engineering design processes, standards, and quality assurance.
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar.
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage budgets, resources, and project schedules.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to mentor, develop, and support engineering teams.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical excellence and project objectives.

Responsibilities for the Design Manager role include:

• Leading and managing a small design team across multiple engineering projects.
• Overseeing the full design lifecycle, from concept through to manufacture, installation, and commissioning.
• Reviewing and approving engineering designs, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Collaborating closely with project managers, clients, and other engineering disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards, company procedures, and quality requirements.
• Supporting the development and continuous improvement of engineering processes and design standards.
• Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to engineers and designers.
• Managing design risks, resolving technical challenges, and driving innovative engineering solutions.
• Supporting business growth through client engagement, proposal development, and technical input where required.
