Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service (YWAHS) is a Specialist Aboriginal Family Violence Service, operating as an independent Not-for-Profit (NFP) organisation. We deliver services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples residing within the Wellington and East Gippsland Local Government Area catchments. Our services are culturally safe and holistic, encompassing counselling, clinical and therapeutic support, and referral pathways. We develop, implement, and deliver family violence education and prevention programs, alongside providing advocacy and post-intervention support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families. We support the recovery and healing of Aboriginal victims, individuals, families, and communities affected by family violence. Additionally, we provide support to perpetrators of family violence, connecting them with programs and services to address their behaviour and equip them with tools for respectful and healthy relationships with their partners, children, and extended family. Our approach prioritises Aboriginal-led solutions that are trauma-informed, culturally safe, and integrated within holistic models of health and wellbeing.

Role Details This is a part-time executive engagement role, requiring approximately 1–2 days per week. It is suitable for experienced CFOs seeking portfolio, consulting, or flexible executive work.

Role Purpose The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide strategic financial leadership to YWAHS. This involves partnering with the Chief Executive Officer, Board, and Executive Leadership Team to enhance the organisation's long-term financial sustainability, governance, and strategic decision-making. The CFO is responsible for guiding the organisation's financial strategy, strengthening financial governance, supporting informed organisational decision-making, and identifying opportunities to improve financial sustainability through innovation, revenue diversification, and strategic investment. This position functions as a fractional executive role, delivering strategic financial leadership while collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer and Finance Lead (Operations) to bolster organisational capability, governance, and long-term financial sustainability.

Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements

  • Education and Experience
  • CPA or CA qualified.
  • Significant senior financial leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial strategy, planning, and governance.
  • Experience working with Boards and Executive teams.
  • Essential Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong strategic and analytical capability.
  • Experience in financial modelling and business case development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights.
  • High level attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated executive leadership and strategic influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop finance professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organisational change and continuous improvement.
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to Boards, Executives, and operational leaders.
  • Highly Desirable
  • Experience in not-for-profit and/or Aboriginal organisations.
