The Jewellery Group (TJG) is a prominent Australian jewellery retailer with over 70 stores nationwide. It operates two distinct brands: Mazzucchelli’s, a premium heritage brand with more than 122 years of history, and Zamel’s, a trusted and accessible brand cherished by generations of Australians.
As TJG embarks on a period of growth and transformation, there is a strategic focus on enhancing payroll governance to support its workforce of over 500 employees, safeguard its brands, and ensure accurate, fair, and timely remuneration for all team members.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO and The Board, the Chief Financial Officer will be accountable for the financial health, governance, and commercial performance of The Jewellery Group. As a vital member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role involves providing strategic counsel to the CEO and Board, while also leading the Finance, Information Technology, Payroll, and Legal functions. Beyond these core responsibilities, the CFO will contribute to shaping the organisation's future direction through strategic planning, business transformation, investment decisions, operational enhancements, and leadership across the broader business. This position will influence decisions impacting every employee, store, and customer.
Executive Leadership
- Partner with the CEO in developing and implementing the Group's strategy.
- Contribute to decision-making within the Executive Leadership Team across all business functions.
- Lead strategic business planning and efforts to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
- Support acquisition activities, investments, and future growth prospects.
- Drive accountability and performance throughout the organisation.
- Foster a culture of commercial awareness and operational excellence.
Areas of Leadership
- Finance:
- Oversee all financial operations, governance, and reporting.
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
- Manage treasury functions, banking relationships, and cash flow.
- Provide insightful reporting to the Board and executive analysis.
- Ensure robust financial controls and compliance measures are in place.
- Drive improvements in profitability, EBITDA growth, and return on investment.
- Manage taxation, audit processes, and statutory obligations.
- Lead financial modelling and capital investment decisions.
- Information Technology:
- Develop and implement the Group's technology strategy.
- Lead ERP optimisation and digital transformation initiatives.
- Enhance cybersecurity and business continuity plans.
- Improve reporting capabilities, automation, and business intelligence.
- Manage external technology partners and vendors.
- Payroll:
- Ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery.
- Strengthen payroll governance and internal controls.
- Improve payroll systems and operational processes.
- Ensure compliance with multiple industrial instruments and legislation.
- Legal & Governance:
- Manage corporate governance and legal compliance.
- Oversee commercial contracts and lease obligations.
- Manage relationships with external legal advisors.
- Identify and mitigate organisational risks.
- Support Board governance requirements.
What You Will Bring
This role requires an experienced executive with exceptional commercial judgment and a commitment to building successful businesses. A strong understanding of the retail sector is essential, along with an enjoyment of solving complex commercial challenges. The ideal candidate will view finance as a facilitator of growth, not solely a reporting function. You should possess the confidence to challenge existing perspectives, the humility to listen, and the experience to effectively influence decisions at both Executive and Board levels. Crucially, you will recognise that effective leadership is demonstrated by the success of those around you.
- CPA or CA qualification.
- Executive leadership experience within a multi-site retail or consumer business.
- Proven experience in a CFO, Finance Director, or equivalent senior executive role.
- Experience presenting to Boards and Executive Committees.
- Strong capabilities in financial planning, reporting, and governance.
- Commercial experience that has influenced operational performance.
- Experience leading organisational transformation initiatives.
- Outstanding leadership and stakeholder management skills.
