Civil Designer

Jo Civil Engineering Services Pty Ltd, a growing civil engineering consultancy in Parramatta, seeks a Civil Designer. We deliver stormwater, flooding, road, and subdivision design across NSW for Local Government and private developers.

This full-time, onsite role involves producing civil design and documentation using 12d Model, supporting our engineering team on land development and infrastructure projects. It is a hands-on technical design position with a significant 12d Model focus. You will model and document civil designs from concept through to construction drawings, working with our design engineers and directly with the Director.

About the Role You will be responsible for civil design and drafting in 12d Model, including:

• Road design, alignments, and intersection layouts aligned with Austroads.
• Stormwater drainage layouts and pit/pipe networks.
• Earthworks, grading, and bulk earthworks.
• Subdivision design, encompassing lot grading, servicing, and road networks.
• Cross sections, long sections, and construction drawings.
• On-site detention (OSD), bio-retention, and WSUD elements.
• Swept path analysis and parking layouts.
• Sheet production and complete drawing sets to JOCES and Council standards.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop civil models in 12d Model, including road strings, drainage, and surfaces, from concept to Issued For Construction (IFC).
• Prepare stormwater drainage layouts integrated with the civil model.
• Produce construction drawings and supporting design documentation.
• Work under the direction of design engineers and incorporate design feedback.
• Generate drawing sets that comply with relevant Development Control Plans (DCPs) and Australian Standards.
• Maintain drawing registers, model files, and design records.
• Coordinate with the design team and the Director on deliverables and project timelines.
• Support Development Application (DA), Construction Certificate (CC), and Section 138 approvals through design documentation.
• Assist with stormwater and drainage design tasks as required.

Requirements

• A Diploma or degree in civil engineering, civil design/drafting, or an equivalent qualification.
• 3–6 years of civil design or drafting experience within an Australian consultancy or Council.
• Strong proficiency in 12d Model, including road strings, drainage, Model Terrain File (MTF), and sheet production.
• Demonstrated experience in producing construction drawings and design documentation.
• Working knowledge of Australian Standards and Austroads Guides.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Australian permanent residency or citizenship.
• A valid NSW driver’s licence and your own vehicle.

Desirable

• Experience with DRAINS for stormwater drainage design.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D as a secondary platform.
• Subdivision and/or road design experience.
• Familiarity with MUSIC/MUSICX.
• WSUD design experience, including bio-retention basins, swales, and rainwater systems.
• Exposure to NSW Council DCPs.
• Working towards further qualification or chartership.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000 per year.
