Civil Engineer Northrop Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd Newcastle
This full-time, hybrid role is based at our Newcastle offices.
As a Civil Engineer, you will join a professional and collaborative team comprising engineers, designers, drafters, graduates, and undergraduates. You will contribute to a varied scope of projects within the built environment. With a strong pipeline of upcoming built form projects from new and existing clients, you will lead projects while being supported by a close-knit management team. You will engage directly with clients, leading projects from concept to construction and technical delivery with the support necessary for success. You will also serve as a mentor to emerging engineers, contributing to technical development across the civil section. You will be part of a growing office that fosters a positive culture, including regular team catch-ups, office events, and social activities.
The ideal candidate will possess the following traits:
- Grounded: You remain calm under pressure, making decisions guided by a clear internal compass. You maintain composure when projects face difficulties.
- Vocal: You offer alternative perspectives at the design table, even when challenging, doing so constructively and without ego, prioritising team credit. You will speak up when something is not right.
- Relationship Builder: You cultivate genuine, sustained professional relationships where clients trust your judgment and colleagues across disciplines enjoy working with you. You value humour and genuinely care about people.
- Self-Directed: Your quality of work stems from professional pride, not external oversight. You consistently seek improvement and are deeply engaged by complex problems.
- Autonomy-Driven: You perform best when trusted to find the right approach, rather than being bound by rigid processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading technical delivery of civil projects across built form, road infrastructure, high-density precinct development, and public domain works.
- Managing multiple tasks concurrently while working autonomously.
- Preparing detailed design and documentation for roads, intersections, pavements, earthworks, and stormwater drainage.
- Acting as a mentor to junior engineers.
- Client-facing engagement and project leadership from concept to construction.
Essential requirements:
- Ideally 3-5 years of local experience as a civil engineering consultant on built form projects.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering.
- Experience preparing detailed design and documentation of roads, intersections, pavements, earthworks, and stormwater drainage.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while working autonomously.
- Working knowledge of civil design software such as 12D Model and/or Civil 3D.
- Competent and independent use of other civil modelling software such as DRAINS, MUSIC, HECRAS, Autoturn, and AutoCAD.
What's on offer:
- Industry-benchmarked salary with annual reviews.
- Genuine flexibility, including hybrid working, flexible hours, and alternative public holidays.
- Paid parental leave for primary carers, maternity, and partners.
- Salary income protection insurance.
- Monthly one-on-one career development conversations, mentoring programs, and investment in training.
