Bayside City Council is seeking an experienced and collaborative finance leader for a permanent, full-time Coordinator Financial Services position. This role operates on a hybrid model, with a corporate centre location in Sandringham and the flexibility to work from home.

About the Role: This role is responsible for overseeing high-quality financial services, reporting, and advice. It leads core finance functions, supports the annual budget process, ensures compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, and drives continuous improvement across systems, processes, and team capability. The Coordinator Financial Services provides leadership in financial and management accounting, accounts payable, treasury, budgeting, and statutory reporting. The position partners with organisational leaders to deliver timely, accurate, and practical financial advice, while upholding strong governance, compliance, and service delivery standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the organisation's annual budget process, encompassing planning, consultation, review, and reporting.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual financial statements, ensuring adherence to Australian Accounting Standards and relevant legislative requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, supporting effective audit planning, delivery, and resolution of audit matters.
  • Lead the delivery of accounting functions, including management accounting, financial accounting, accounts payable, and treasury.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as finance systems implementation, process enhancement, and strengthened internal controls.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate the Financial Services team to achieve high standards of service, accountability, and professional capability.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience facilitating an organisation’s annual budget process.
  • Experience in leading the completion of annual financial statements, with a demonstrated application of Australian Accounting Standards, and liaising with external audit functions.
  • Experience in leading a range of accounting functions, including accounts payable, treasury, management accounting, and financial accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver continuous improvement initiatives, including systems implementation and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating a team.
  • A degree in Accounting or a related discipline, coupled with membership in CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Mandatory Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Willingness to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Provision or attainment of an employment-based Working with Children check.

Work Details:

  • Employment Status: Permanent, full-time
  • Days & Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, totalling 38 hours per week.
  • Salary: Competitive Salary, Band 8, ranging from $133,367.11 to $149,592.80 per annum (dependent on experience), plus 12% superannuation.
  • Location: Corporate Centre in Sandringham, with the flexibility to work from home.
