The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team is fundamental to AWS, supporting its rapid growth and customer needs around the clock. We are dedicated to maintaining the physical infrastructure of AWS, upholding standards for operational performance in safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.
The Data Center Engineering Operations Trainee will contribute to Data Center Engineering Operations within an Amazon Data Center, focusing on risk management and mitigation, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor management, and metric reporting.
We are seeking an individual with minimal prior experience, who is results-driven, possesses a technical understanding (electrical/mechanical), and demonstrates a strong drive and passion to learn data center engineering operations. This role reports to the DCEO Manager and will be accountable for sustaining availability, cost management, risk assessment and mitigation, reviewing corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, and metric reporting.
You will interact with a diverse group of professionals including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other key personnel. Collaboration across AWS will be essential to uphold the highest standards for safety and security, while delivering immense capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. This is a 6-month fixed-term hire with the potential to transition to a full-time role.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include:
- Learning the Data Center industry through structured training and hands-on experience.
- Assisting with the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Maintaining performance benchmarks, conducting analyses, and preparing reports on all facets of critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
- Generating Change Management requests and Incident Management tickets for DCEO as directed.
- Learning and contributing to documentation related to business and facility operations.
- Assisting with rack installations and the provision of power/cooling within specified constraints.
- Participating in routine maintenance and emergency services for critical systems including: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Assisting with and learning about the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new facilities.
- Assisting with the management of facility assets and the provision of infrastructure and inventory asset management as directed.
- May participate in Construction & Operational Meetings as required.
- Assisting with Work Order compliance and the review of contractual SLAs.
- Liaising with Infra Ops teams for daily operational requirements.
- Assisting in the resolution of infrastructure engineering or services issues.
- Delivering exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
- Adhering to daily hours of operation, shift, and on-call requirements for response during shift rotations.
In the context of large-scale data centers, your involvement will include:
- Providing support and assistance to the onsite operations team in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service-Level Agreements (SLA).
- Performing rack installs, rack decommissioning, and facility management.
- Providing operational readings and key performance indicators to ensure uptime is maintained.
- On-site management of contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring all work performed aligns with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
