Your Impact
This role is integral to how data drives our business. As a Data Engineer at Entain, you will be instrumental in shaping and scaling the data platform that supports decision-making across the organisation. From customer behaviour analysis to operational performance insights, your work will ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and trustworthiness. You will assume responsibility for our Snowflake data warehouse and the pipelines that supply it, focusing on continuous improvement in performance, scalability, and reliability. By delivering high-quality data solutions efficiently, you will directly empower analytics, marketing, trading, and finance teams to make more informed and timely decisions. This position will evolve in line with the adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices within the Data team.
A Day in the Life
Your responsibilities will encompass both delivery and ongoing enhancement:
- Manage, maintain, and optimise Snowflake environments to meet expectations for performance, cost, and service level agreements.
- Design, construct, and improve ETL/ELT pipelines for ingesting and transforming data from a diverse range of sources.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into scalable, reliable data solutions.
- Develop and refine data models to support reporting, analytics, and downstream use cases.
- Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot issues, and proactively enhance data quality and timeliness.
- Contribute to testing frameworks, code reviews, and engineering standards to elevate overall platform quality.
- Document data flows, architecture, and processes to facilitate maintainability and knowledge sharing.
- Partner with analysts, data scientists, and engineers to deliver end-to-end data products.
- Utilise modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development and observability, to boost delivery efficiency and data reliability.
Your Strengths
- Substantial experience with data warehousing principles and dimensional modelling (Kimball).
- Hands-on expertise with Snowflake or comparable cloud-based data platforms.
- Advanced SQL skills, including experience in building performant and maintainable transformations.
- Proven experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Matillion or similar.
- Understanding of contemporary data architectures, encompassing batch and streaming (e.g., Kafka).
- Experience working with both structured and semi-structured data formats (JSON, XML).
- Familiarity with version control tools (GitHub/GitLab) and collaborative engineering practices.
- Exposure to BI ecosystems (e.g., SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS or similar).
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Cortex Code or similar) to improve productivity and code quality.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities with an emphasis on performance, scalability, and data quality.
- Self-driven, adaptable, and comfortable operating within a fast-paced, evolving environment.
