About the Role
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Newcastle, reporting to the National Lead Design Drafter. As the Design Drafting Lead for NSW, you will be responsible for guiding the Newcastle drafting team to produce high-quality, construction-ready design outputs, assisting with effective resource planning and workflow coordination, and contributing to the team's capability development. You will also apply your hands-on technical drafting expertise to a variety of electrical engineering projects. This role is suited to an individual with prior leadership experience or a senior drafter prepared to transition into a leadership capacity.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily resourcing, workflow planning, and work allocation for the Newcastle drafting team.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to junior and developing drafters to enhance team capability.
- Generate high-quality, construction-ready drafting deliverables for primary and/or secondary electrical projects.
- Supervise quality control processes, ensuring drafting outputs meet project specifications, company standards, and relevant Australian standards.
- Liaise closely with engineers and internal stakeholders to support project delivery, priorities, and deadlines.
- Balance hands-on drafting duties with team leadership and line management responsibilities.
- Contribute to a collaborative, positive team environment and support ongoing improvements in drafting processes and delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
- Cert III, Diploma in Drafting, or a degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Ideally, 8+ years of experience in primary or secondary electrical engineering projects.
- AutoCAD is essential.
- Microstation, Elecdes, and Bentley Substation are advantageous but not essential.
- Strong understanding of AS3000, AS2067, and other applicable Australian regulations.
- A self-motivated leader committed to the professional integrity of the team.
- Ability to influence outcomes and resolve technical challenges through collaboration and innovation.
- Highly organised, proactive, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
