Disability Support Worker - Accommodation/SIL

ConnectAbility Australia is seeking skilled and passionate staff due to recent business expansion. We have multiple opportunities available for part-time, onsite work in Newcastle.

About ConnectAbility Australia: Established in 1992 by community members in Newcastle, ConnectAbility Australia has over 30 years of experience in enhancing the lives of people with disabilities. We are a leading not-for-profit service provider across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland, the Hunter Region, and the Central Coast. We support nearly 1,800 individuals of all ages, empowering them to achieve their goals.

The Opportunity: We have part-time positions for dedicated Disability Support Workers within our supported independent living homes across various locations in the Hunter region. The role involves a set two-week rotating roster, including day and night shifts, based on customer support needs.

As a Disability Support Worker, you will contribute to individuals achieving their goals by:

  • Customer Engagement: Supporting and mentoring customers in daily living and delivering person-centred support, working both independently and within a team.
  • Domestic Support: Assisting customers with daily tasks such as meal preparation, personal care, and medication administration.
  • Transportation: Accompanying customers to various activities and appointments.
  • Relationship Development: Building connections with customers, their families, health professionals, and stakeholders.
  • Customer Documentation: Completing progress notes, incident reports, monthly reports, collecting data, and managing emails.

Requirements:

  • Availability for a range of shifts, including mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Certificate III in Individual Support) or equivalent life experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An inclusive, understanding, and compassionate attitude with a passion for customer support excellence.
  • A reliable smartphone for work purposes.
  • Computer proficiency, including Outlook, Word, and SharePoint.
  • New South Wales Driver's License (P2 or full license).
  • A Nationally Recognised First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check or the ability to obtain one.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module or the ability to complete the training.
  • Working with Children Check (paid Employee) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing work, health, and safety requirements.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health and complex needs.
