Disability Support Worker — Children & Young People

GSL: A Good Start to Life is seeking a Disability Support Worker to support children and young people aged 0–18 with complex physical, intellectual, and mental health needs. This role focuses on assisting young people within their home life, learning, and community inclusion.

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be a consistent and trusted presence, providing warmth and support to help young people build the skills and confidence to become valued members of their community.

Responsibilities:

• Provide safe, person-centred care within a therapeutic home environment, adhering to trauma-informed practice and strong child safety principles.
• Support young people through daily life, learning, and personal growth, following individual plans to foster independence, confidence, and life skills.
• Create a stable and nurturing environment where young people feel safe and heard.
• Build trusting relationships through consistency, empathy, and a calm demeanour, acting as a dependable presence.
• Encourage community connection and social inclusion for young people.

Requirements:

• Experience supporting children or young people with complex needs.
• Understanding of trauma-informed and child-safe practice in action.
• Reliability and emotional resilience.
• Currently hold or be working towards a Certificate IV in Disability Support, Youth Work, or a related field.
• Hold a Working with Children Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card), current First Aid and CPR certificates.
• Possess a minimum P2 driver's licence.
• Hold or be willing to apply for an LCS2.
