Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical & Controls Engineering Supervisor to join their team. This role offers the chance to be a recognised technical leader for electrical and control systems engineering onsite at Queensland's youngest coal-fired power station, home to Australia's largest single generating unit.
This position requires not only supervisory capabilities but also an experienced Electrical & Controls Engineer who possesses deep technical expertise and authority. The ideal candidate will have the ability to influence engineering decisions, mentor experienced engineers, and provide technical leadership across complex operating plant environments.
You will be joining the Power Station at a pivotal moment in its operational history, which includes a major overhaul this year featuring a once-in-a-career generator replacement. Your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring the ongoing safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant.
About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, you will provide technical leadership across electrical engineering, protection systems, and industrial control systems. You will also support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of critical plant assets.
Working collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing people and engineering leadership across electrical, protection, and industrial control systems.
- Leading engineering investigations, fault finding, and root cause analysis of complex plant issues.
- Offering expert technical advice and engineering guidance on electrical and control systems throughout the station.
- Developing maintenance, reliability, and asset improvement strategies for critical plant assets.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant reliability, asset performance, and engineering outcomes.
- Supporting major overhauls, outages, capital projects, and plant modifications.
- Providing engineering governance and technical assurance for electrical and control systems.
- Mentoring, coaching, and developing an experienced engineering team, while strengthening technical capability across the site.
- Influencing engineering decisions through sound technical judgment, collaboration, and practical problem-solving.
- Building trusted relationships across Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and Senior Leadership to achieve safe, reliable, and commercially sound outcomes.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Electrical and Controls Engineering Supervisor who combines profound technical expertise with the ability to lead, influence, and mentor. You should be equally adept at solving complex engineering problems, providing technical guidance, influencing engineering decisions, and building credibility with engineers, operations, and maintenance teams within a complex operating environment.
Ideally, you will possess:
- Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
- RPEQ registration or the ability to obtain it.
- Significant experience within thermal power generation or another complex continuous process industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of power station electrical and control systems, including generators, HV systems, transformers, protection systems, and modern distributed control systems (e.g., Siemens T3000 or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex electrical and industrial control systems within an operating process plant.
- A strong understanding of asset management, reliability engineering, maintenance strategies, risk management, and plant lifecycle planning.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor experienced engineers and influence technical outcomes through sound engineering judgment and practical problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility across engineering, maintenance, operations, and senior leadership.
