Role Description Join the JORN Project as an Electrical Engineer and contribute to a leading Australian defence capability. This role involves the design, development, and delivery of electrical systems and equipment, ensuring adherence to contractual and business requirements while supporting project performance objectives. You will provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle within a collaborative engineering setting. Occasional travel to remote Radar Sites may be required to support technical scoping and oversee installation works.

Core Duties:

  • Develop and review electrical engineering design documentation.
  • Manage and progress electrical engineering projects from inception to incorporation.
  • Complete all assigned work according to the schedule outlined in the Power and Systems 2 Year Plan.
  • Report weekly on Engineering Change progress to the Power and Systems Team Lead via electronic reporting mechanisms.
  • Assist in performing real-time and retrospective fault diagnosis for system outage events.
  • Conduct System Safety assessments using applicable processes for Hazard Identification and Analysis.
  • Liaise with Team Leads to establish career goals for professional development.
  • Attend regular Continuous Training sessions to expand knowledge and support Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Assist in analysing system obsolescence risks and recommending solutions.
  • Support the Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) team in conducting various ILS assessments of the JORN system.
  • Contribute to team planning, risk management, product safety, quality, and Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE).
  • Develop and apply electrical knowledge of the JORN system, subsystems, and units to understand the operational requirements of current system variants.
  • Work towards achieving Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status through Engineers Australia, with assistance provided by BAE Systems.
  • Work towards attaining appropriate Technical Authority delegations within the specified engineering discipline.
  • Participate in peer reviews for various JORN Sustainment artefacts.
  • Mentor new and junior engineers within the Power and Electrical team, as assigned by the Team Lead.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the broader project team, including remote site personnel, contractors, operators, and the customer.

  • Site Electrical Assessments
  • Earthing System Design and Testing
  • Condition Based Monitoring
  • Arc Flash Assessments
  • UPS Design
  • Development of Labour and Material Estimates (Bill of Engineering Design (BOE))
  • Development of strong relationships with site-based and ADHOC project teams.

About YOU

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • Understanding of requirements analysis, design, verification, and other systems engineering principles.
  • Experience in some of the following technologies, design analysis techniques, and development tools: Power generation and distribution, Design documentation, Circuit Protection, Earthing Systems, Control circuit design, Electrical Industry standards, Lighting systems, Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) solutions and compliance.
  • Experience developing simple electrical equipment designs, participating in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses, and implementing electrical solutions, including their integration, validation, and qualification testing.
  • Background in defence practices is highly desired.
  • Possession of a Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain an NV1 clearance.
