Finance Manager - Battery Recycling

Renewable Metals is at the forefront of battery recycling innovation, utilising next-generation cleantech to recover over 95% of key battery metals. Supported by leading climate-tech investors and government grants, including ARENA, we are developing a demonstration plant in Kewdale and a commercial-scale plant in NSW.
We are seeking a Finance Manager to join our scaling deep-tech business. This is a hands-on role focused on owning the financial execution for our demonstration plant and advancing our engineering and R&D programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own cost allocation across plant operations, engineering builds, and R&D programmes, ensuring accuracy and audit readiness.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, quarterly shareholder reports, and board packs, reconciled against budget.
- Build and manage the annual budget in collaboration with functional heads and senior leadership.
- Manage grant compliance reporting, milestone tracking, and financial acquittals across multiple government funding programmes.
- Coordinate the annual external audit end-to-end, preparing workpapers and managing close-out with auditors.
- Support R&D tax incentive preparation in coordination with external advisors.
- Process payments through the banking platform and work with the bookkeeper for correct attribution to suppliers, contracts, and invoices.
- Maintain accounting software project setup for accurate cost allocation across grants and projects.
- Manage the accounts payable process, including Precoro purchase order administration.
- Coordinate annual insurance renewals and prepare insurance adequacy summaries for board review.
- Track capital and project costs, including work-in-progress and the capitalise-versus-expense boundary for the engineering programme.
- Prepare cash flow and earnings forecasts for internal review and strategic planning.
Candidate Profile:
- CA or CPA qualified with 5–7 years' finance experience in scaling businesses.
- Demonstrated expertise in cost accounting across operational, capital/project, and R&D activities, with a strong understanding of capitalise-versus-expense boundaries.
- Proven hands-on experience preparing management accounts and financial statements in a growth environment.
- Track record managing external audits end-to-end and working effectively with external accounting firms.
- Experience with grant reporting, government-funding compliance, and financial acquittals.
- Background in resources/minerals processing, engineering, or construction projects, or grant-funded deep-tech sectors is desirable.
- Proficiency with Xero or similar SME accounting systems; familiarity with Precoro or similar procurement platforms is advantageous.
- An execution-first mindset with the ability to build and run finance systems independently.
- Commercially literate with a strong understanding of the business context behind financial data.
- Highly organised and precise, capable of managing multiple reporting deadlines without error.
- Collaborative communicator who works effectively with external providers and non-finance stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-paced environments where scope evolves.
