Finance Manager - Compliance & Tax

This is a significant leadership position focused on overseeing the Group's financial compliance, taxation reporting, and governance. You will be instrumental in enhancing tax processes, ensuring adherence to regulations, and driving superior financial operations. This role involves leading a small team, collaborating with principal internal stakeholders, and managing interactions with external regulatory bodies such as the ATO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine tax policies, procedures, and governance frameworks, with a specific focus on Tax Policy and GST Governance.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and submission of ATO reporting obligations, including BAS, STP, PAYG, payroll tax, and FBT.
- Monitor and address issues of non-compliance, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Provide guidance on legislative changes and evaluate their implications for Group compliance and reporting.
- Collaborate with finance systems teams to implement required policy and technology updates.
- Oversee periodic financial close processes and compliance reporting.
- Contribute to Group statutory and Board reporting.
- Support interim and year-end audit processes.
- Develop and deliver training programs to foster a strong compliance culture and continuous improvement.
- Lead and mentor a small, capable team, promoting high performance and accountability.
About You:
- Possess a CA or CPA qualification.
- Have a strong background in accounting, with experience in Chartered/professional services being ideal.
- Demonstrate technical expertise in indirect tax, particularly GST.
- Experience managing relationships with the ATO and State Government bodies is required; exposure to the Top 1000 GST Assurance Program is highly regarded.
- Exhibit proven leadership capability, including experience managing and mentoring a small team.
- Possess strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legislation.
- Have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
- Knowledge of Dynamics 365 or JIRA would be advantageous.
- Approach your work proactively and with attention to detail, with the ability to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities.
