The Port of Townsville Limited has been a significant force in shaping Townsville and North Queensland for 160 years. It stands as Australia’s leading port for zinc, lead, copper, sugar, and fertiliser, and handles more motor vehicles and containerised goods than any other port in Northern Australia. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Finance Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight of Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions. This role involves leading a small team, ensuring adherence to legislation and enterprise agreements, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to uphold financial integrity and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily Payroll and Accounts Receivable operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with legislative requirements.
- Lead, supervise, coach, and support the Accounts Receivable and Payroll team.
- Review Payroll processing, employee entitlements, deductions, and benefits in conjunction with People & Culture.
- Monitor Accounts Receivable ageing reports, manage overdue accounts, and enforce credit policies.
- Resolve discrepancies and respond to enquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and enhance financial procedures and internal controls to optimise Payroll and Accounts Receivable workflows.
- Prepare regular financial reports, including Payroll summaries and Accounts Receivable reporting.
- Support month-end and year-end financial close processes.
- Partner with Operations concerning customer invoicing and related queries.
About You:
You are a confident and collaborative finance professional with demonstrated experience in leading finance functions. You possess strong analytical skills, a solutions-oriented approach, and the ability to foster productive working relationships across the organisation. You are keen on process improvement while prioritising compliance, accuracy, and service delivery.
You will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce.
- Proven experience overseeing Payroll and/or Accounts Receivable functions.
- Sound knowledge of relevant financial legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated people leadership, including coaching and development.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- The capacity to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in improving financial processes and internal controls.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP systems such as TechnologyOne, Oracle, or similar.
- The ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
