Just Country Australia is a long-standing wholesale and distribution company representing leading equestrian, western, and outdoor brands across Australia and New Zealand. With a significant retail and distribution presence, the company is expanding and seeks an experienced Financial Controller to join its leadership team and contribute to the financial direction and ongoing success of the business.

About the Role Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Financial Controller is responsible for the financial health, integrity, and performance of the company. This hands-on leadership role involves managing the finance function, producing accurate financial reports, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing commercial insights to support strategic decisions. The Financial Controller will collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team and operational leaders to deliver financial insights that enhance business performance, strengthen internal controls, and aid strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all financial and accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Lead the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Monitor business performance and provide commercial insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Partner with operational leaders to improve profitability and support informed business decisions.
• Oversee payroll governance and ensure compliance with payroll-related legislative obligations.
• Manage statutory reporting requirements, including BAS, PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation, FBT, STP, and WorkCover obligations.
• Review, implement, and maintain robust internal controls, financial policies, and risk management frameworks.
• Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors, financial institutions, and external advisors.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, process optimisation, and best-practice financial management.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.

About You You are a commercially astute finance professional who enjoys partnering with the business and leading a team. You possess strong technical capabilities and can communicate clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
• CPA or CA qualification.
• 5+ years in a senior accounting or financial management role.
• Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and statutory compliance.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
• Experience in a retail, wholesale, or multi-site business environment is desirable.
• Proven leadership and team development experience.
• Experience with Pronto Xi is desirable.
