Financial Transactions Coordinator

City of Fremantle

Location: Fremantle Work type: Full-time, Onsite Salary: $88,639 - $104,521 per annum + 12% superannuation

The City of Fremantle is seeking a Financial Transactions Coordinator to join a future-focused team that balances commercial insight with community outcomes. This role operates within a culture of trust and ownership, where local government meets meaningful enterprise. Based in Walyalup (Fremantle), the City offers flexible work options and a strong focus on outcomes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and continuously improving the City’s financial transaction functions across Accounts Payable and Revenue. This includes ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting, in accordance with relevant legislation, Australian Accounting Standards, and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage a high-performing Financial Transactions team, fostering capability through coaching, development, and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain a strong governance and control environment, ensuring compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements.
  • Deliver efficient and accurate financial transaction processes, including receipting, invoicing, supplier payments, reconciliations, and journals, ensuring timely processing.
  • Ensure the integrity of financial data through accurate record-keeping, reconciliations, and timely completion of month-end and year-end processes.
  • Deliver efficient and compliant Accounts Receivable operations, including accurate billing, effective debt recovery, strong financial controls, and reliable reporting to support cash flow and financial integrity.
  • Oversee Bank Reconciliation Processes to ensure Council's cash balances and financial records are accurate, complete, and reconciled promptly.
  • Coordinate Insurance Administration and Claims Management to ensure the Council's insurance portfolio is effectively managed, appropriate coverage is maintained, and claims are processed and resolved efficiently.
  • Review Reconciliations and Monitor Financial Controls by investigating significant or outstanding discrepancies, ensuring the integrity of financial records, and facilitating timely issue resolution and escalation as required.
  • Coordinate the preparation of transactional reporting, such as monthly payment listings, aged debtors, debtor monitoring, and write-offs, for inclusion in Council meetings and the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC), to support decision-making and meet governance requirements.
  • Manage and resolve complex, sensitive, or high-risk financial issues, escalating to the Financial Accounting Team Leader as required.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline, and/or significant relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, or leading a small transactional finance team, including workload coordination, performance support, and capability development.
  • Demonstrated experience using integrated corporate financial systems and associated data management tools, with strong proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality internal and external customer service, including the ability to manage competing priorities, resolve enquiries, and maintain professional stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounts receivable and debt collection within a medium to large organisation, including management of overdue accounts, dispute resolution, stakeholder liaison, and compliance with organisational procedures.
