Job Description

Graduate Civil Engineer

Amey Australia is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer to join their team in Rockhampton. This is a full-time, remote position.

Begin your engineering career with practical application, where your contributions are visibly constructed. This role provides comprehensive exposure to design, site operations, and client interactions, enabling you to oversee projects from inception through to completion. You will be an integral part of a team that values pragmatic thinking, accountability, and sustained professional advancement.

About the Role

This is a dynamic, hands-on position with varied weekly activities. You will support senior engineers and project managers while progressively assuming accountability for your own work streams.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of engineering reports, proposals, and impact assessments.
  • Undertaking site visits to aid in inspections and monitor project progress.
  • Contributing to design work and calculations.
  • Supporting contract documentation.
  • Tracking project deliverables to ensure adherence to timelines and standards.

You will also engage with clients, contractors, and local authorities, gaining early insight into stakeholder management and practical project delivery.

What We Are Looking For

Must Have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Valid working rights in Australia (sponsorship is not available).
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients and colleagues.
  • Good time management abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Attention to detail and a willingness to take ownership of your work.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 12D, PC Sewer/Drain, or similar.
  • Practical experience gained through internships, placements, or part-time roles.
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering completed in Australia.
  • Membership or progress towards membership with Engineers Australia.

This role is suited for an individual who is curious, practical, and eager to learn through on-the-job experience rather than solely desk-based work.

The Environment and Team

You will join a cohesive team operating across both office and field settings. The team culture is collaborative and grounded, where graduates are entrusted with genuine responsibilities and supported by experienced engineers and project managers.

Expect a blend of office-based activities and site visits, which may occur in diverse or remote locations. Therefore, flexibility and a hands-on approach are important.

Why Join Amey Australia?

  • Gain genuine hands-on experience across design, reporting, and site work.
  • Exposure to a variety of civil projects and clients.
  • A team that supports your development without micromanaging.
  • Clear expectations and the opportunity to build strong technical foundations.
  • Stability and consistent workflow within a growing regional operation.
  • Study Assistance is available for further development.
  • An additional day of leave on your birthday.
  • An annual wellness subsidy for healthy lifestyle initiatives.
  • Grow our team with our generous referral bonus.

This is a significant opportunity for those looking to build practical engineering experience and develop into a well-rounded consultant.
