Job Description

Graduate Electrical Engineer - 12 Months Fixed Term

Company: Saluda Medical Location: Macquarie Park Work Type: Contract Onsite/Remote: Onsite

Saluda Medical, established in 2013, is dedicated to transforming patient lives through innovative neuromodulation solutions. With over a decade of advanced research, development, and clinical experience, we are leaders in pain management, designing and developing next-generation implantable stimulation devices.

We are seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join our Sydney engineering team. This entry-level, 12-month fixed-term contract role is designed for early-career engineers interested in developing strong technical capabilities while contributing to safety-critical products. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers, gaining exposure to the entire product lifecycle, from design and development to verification and manufacturing support. The position is expected to commence between July and August this year, with some flexibility. The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000.

Graduates will have the opportunity to develop skills in one or more electrical engineering specialisations, including Embedded Firmware, RF Systems, PCB Design, or Mixed-Signal ASICs, based on your background and interests. As a Class III Medical Device company, strong written and technical skills are essential for documentation, a key component of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and development of electrical and electronic subsystems for implantable and external medical devices.
  • Assist with technical tasks across one or more specialisation areas (firmware, RF, PCB, or ASIC) under supervision.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews (schematic, layout, firmware, and system level) and learn to apply engineering feedback.
  • Assist with debugging, testing, and basic root cause analysis during development activities.
  • Support verification and validation activities, including executing test protocols and recording results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, mechanical, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing.
  • Clearly communicate technical information and progress to team members.
  • Ensure work aligns with safety, quality, and regulatory standards appropriate to medical devices.

Technical Streams: Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong technical foundations in at least one of the following areas:

  • RF and Wireless Systems:
  • Design and integration of Bluetooth or other RF systems.
  • Antenna integration, coexistence, and EMC considerations.
  • Supporting RF compliance and regulatory testing.
  • PCB Design and Layout:
  • Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design.
  • Layout for mixed-signal, low-noise, and RF-sensitive systems.
  • Design for manufacturability and test.
  • Embedded Firmware:
  • Embedded programming (e.g., C).
  • Developing firmware for low-power or safety-critical systems.
  • Hardware-software integration and debugging.
  • Mixed-Signal ASIC Development:
  • Specifying, designing, or supporting analog/mixed-signal ASICs.
  • Front-end analog design, data converters, power management, and signal integrity.
  • Working with ASIC vendors or design houses.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline (recent graduate or graduating within 12 months).
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of electronics and engineering principles.
  • Exposure to at least one relevant area (firmware, RF, PCB, or ASIC) through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and attention to detail.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with programming (e.g., C, Python).
  • Familiarity with electronics lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.).
  • Exposure to PCB design tools or simulation tools (e.g., LTspice).
  • Internship, co-op, or project experience in engineering.
  • Awareness or experience in regulated environments or medical device standards (e.g., ISO 13485, IEC 62304).

At Saluda, we challenge boundaries, innovate beyond the conventional, and disrupt. If you are ready to join our team developing the world's next generation of implantable device technology and contribute to making an impact on patient care, this is the opportunity for you.

Applications will only be considered from candidates with the appropriate approval to work in Australia; no visa or sponsorship is available for this role. All eligible candidates are invited to apply. We respectfully ask for no agency approaches.
