Graduate Mechanical Engineer

EMtek Pty Ltd is a multidisciplinary engineering firm operating with strong values, ethics, and expertise. We deliver professional, technical, and project management services spanning structural, mechanical, process, piping, civil, electrical, instrumentation, safety, control, communications, and software engineering. Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and driven Graduate Mechanical Engineer to contribute in a varied capacity within a professional yet approachable setting. This is a full-time, onsite position based at our Melbourne office.

The role will involve, but is not limited to:

  • Assisting in the delivery of mechanical engineering design for projects including bulk materials handling, conveyor systems, transfer chutes, equipment layout, and piping systems.
  • Preparing engineering calculations, technical documentation, and design deliverables under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Supporting the development and review of engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and engineering packages in line with company procedures and project requirements.
  • Collaborating with engineers, designers, and drafting personnel to achieve accurate and practical engineering solutions.
  • Developing knowledge of Australian Standards, industry design codes, and engineering tools, including exposure to DEM simulation software.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on safety through participation in risk assessments, design reviews, and Safety in Design (SiD) activities.
  • Representing EMtek professionally during client interactions and site visits, ensuring the accuracy and quality of engineering outputs.
  • Taking ownership of professional development by actively engaging in mentoring, seeking feedback, building technical competency through practical application, and contributing to EMtek's knowledge base, systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Up to 2 years’ post-graduate experience in a mechanical engineering role, which may include internships or vacation work.
  • Foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles such as statics, dynamics, materials, and fluid mechanics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply engineering theory to practical challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to work effectively within a team.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and request assistance when required.
  • Genuine interest in the resources, mining, or heavy industrial sector.
