Intermediate / Senior Accountant – Business Services & Tax
Capita Business Advisors and Tax Consultants is seeking an experienced public practice accountant to join their growing CPA public practice. The firm provides accounting, taxation, bookkeeping, and business advisory services to individuals, sole traders, companies, trusts, and small businesses throughout Australia. This full-time, onsite position in Coburg offers a salary of $75,000 – $85,000 per year.
About the Role
Working in direct collaboration with the Principal Accountant, you will manage a varied client portfolio, delivering high-quality accounting and taxation services. This hands-on role encompasses business services, taxation, bookkeeping, and advisory functions. You will also contribute to mentoring junior team members, enhancing internal processes, and supporting the practice's ongoing expansion. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements and income tax returns for all entity types.
- Prepare and review BAS, IAS, FBT, and associated workpapers.
- Provide assistance with tax planning, business advisory, and taxation research.
- Review work completed by junior team members, offering guidance and mentorship.
- Contribute to the improvement of systems, workflows, and quality management processes.
- Offer bookkeeping, payroll, STP, and cloud accounting support as needed.
- Engage directly with clients and assist with ATO correspondence and payment arrangements.
- Utilise technology, including AI, to enhance efficiency and client outcomes.
- Uphold high standards of technical quality and client service.
About You
You will ideally possess:
- CPA or CA qualification, or be currently undertaking studies towards one.
- A minimum of 3 years of verifiable Australian public practice experience.
- Experience in preparing financial statements, income tax returns, and BAS.
- Strong proficiency with Xero, Xero Tax, Xero Practice Manager, and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Experience in reviewing work and mentoring junior staff.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a focus on detail.
- A positive, proactive, and team-oriented approach.
Experience with Division 7A, FBT, CGT, investment property taxation, payroll tax, ATO correspondence, and AI productivity tools will be highly regarded.
