Junior / Graduate Accountant – Public Practice
Thornton Davies is a boutique CPA accounting firm located in Kew East, offering accounting, taxation, bookkeeping, and audit services to a varied clientele. We are committed to delivering high-quality, personalised service and practical advice. As our firm expands, we are seeking a motivated Junior / Graduate Accountant to join our team. This position is suitable for an individual with approximately 2–3 years of experience in an Australian accounting practice, aiming to further develop their career in tax and business services.
Role Overview You will collaborate closely with experienced accountants and partners, gaining exposure to a wide array of clients and accounting matters.
Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Preparation of individual income tax returns.
- Preparation of company, trust, and partnership tax returns.
- Assistance with BAS, IAS, and GST reporting.
- Preparation of financial statements and year-end workpapers.
- Assistance with bookkeeping, reconciliations, and management reports.
- Utilisation of Xero and other accounting software.
- Liaison with clients, the ATO, and other third parties as required.
- Assistance with SMSF work, where applicable.
- Support for the team with general tax, compliance, and business services work.
Candidate Profile The successful candidate will ideally possess:
- 2–3 years of experience within an Australian accounting practice.
- Experience in preparing individual tax returns.
- Exposure to preparing company, trust, and partnership tax returns.
- Experience with Xero.
- Experience with Handisoft would be highly regarded.
- MYOB and QuickBooks experience would also be beneficial.
- A good understanding of BAS, GST, and basic tax compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage deadlines and work across multiple clients.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Salary $60,000 – $68,000 per year. Salary will be negotiated based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This role is suited to a Junior / Graduate Accountant with approximately 2–3 years of public practice experience.
