Lead Hydraulic Engineer (Buildings)

Stantec Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a Lead Hydraulic Engineer for its Sydney Buildings group. This is a full-time leadership position based in Sydney NSW, offering remote work flexibility.

This role is suited for a qualified professional with hydraulic design consultancy experience in the building services sector. The position involves a blend of technical leadership, strategic business development, and client engagement. You will be responsible for leading diverse projects, ensuring thorough design, personal review, and on-time delivery. The role encompasses projects of significant size, complexity, and multiple clients across various sectors including data centres, health, defence, high-rise, and education, as well as refurbishments and site investigations.

You will be part of a strong team environment, working across Hydraulic and other Building Services disciplines, and will manage multiple projects concurrently. This role requires a self-motivated, resourceful, and communicative individual.

Day-to-day tasks include:

• Developing hydraulic building services designs for water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and gas systems.
• Leading client-facing project delivery from concept to construction, focusing on quality outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.
• Preparing technical documentation, calculations, assessments, specifications, and tender packages for building projects.
• Conducting site inspections, defect reporting, and responding to RFIs during the construction phase.
• Prioritising workloads to meet client needs.
• Continuing to build and develop your professional profile across NSW.
• Ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, Building Codes, and client specifications.
• Mentoring and supporting junior engineers to foster excellence and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A degree qualification in an engineering discipline.
• Hydraulic building services work experience within the consulting or engineering industry.
• Design and building practitioners accreditation.
• Self-management skills, alongside technical design and project management abilities.
• To be well-connected within the industry and able to foster client relationships.
• Technical strength in understanding the key elements of design and construction associated with Hydraulic Engineering works.
• The ability to make quality business decisions.
• The ability to multitask and deliver high-profile projects in a timely manner.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
