Hancock Iron Ore is seeking a Lead Operational Finance to join its Finance team at its new corporate headquarters in West Perth. This onsite, full-time role reports to the Manager Operational Finance.
About the Role This position will lead the Operational Finance function, providing support to Hancock Iron Ore's (HIO) Processing and Operations Support departments. You will manage a small team of Management Accountants, working collaboratively with business leaders to deliver precise, timely, and valuable financial insights. These insights will aid effective decision-making, enhance cost management, and build financial capability throughout the organisation.
Key responsibilities include leading essential financial processes such as month-end reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring all outputs are accurate, insightful, and meet business requirements. The role is also integral to improving financial performance visibility, assisting leaders in understanding cost drivers, and identifying opportunities for process simplification and enhancement. Duties
- Lead, coach, and develop a small team of management accountants to produce high-quality financial reporting, analysis, and business partnering support.
- Partner with processing and operations support leaders to deliver clear financial insights, advice, and analysis that facilitate effective decision-making.
- Manage month-end management accounting activities, including reporting, variance analysis, commentary, and performance insights within established timeframes.
- Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes for the supported departments, ensuring outputs are robust, timely, and aligned with business requirements.
- Assist leaders in understanding financial performance, identifying key cost drivers and variances, and developing strategies to improve cost outcomes.
- Enhance financial capability across the business by supporting leaders to strengthen their comprehension of budgets, forecasts, costs, and performance drivers.
- Drive continuous improvement in finance processes, reporting, and work methods to simplify activities, improve quality, and support better business outcomes.
- Contribute to the ongoing transformation of Finance and HIO by supporting initiatives that advance the function's simplicity, intelligence, and future readiness.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience coaching, supporting, or leading finance professionals, with the capacity to guide team performance and development.
- Strong management accounting experience within a medium to large organisation, encompassing month-end reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proven experience partnering with senior business leaders to provide financial insights, advice, and analysis that support informed decision-making.
- Strong capability in cost management, variance analysis, financial reporting, and performance commentary, with an emphasis on accuracy and business value.
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with CPA or CA accreditation.
Remuneration and Hours This role offers a company contribution to private health insurance. Work is scheduled Monday to Friday.
