Management Accountant

SE National is a multi-depot transport and logistics group encompassing linehaul, last-mile distribution, warehousing, and workshop operations throughout Victoria. This role operates alongside the existing Management Accountant, jointly overseeing the group's finance function. The focus for this position is weighted towards management reporting, daily transactional accounting, and generating precise, dependable figures for the transport business. You will be instrumental in producing the group's monthly reports and KPI packs, while also contributing to the broader entity structure and property interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Generate timely and accurate monthly management reports for the transport business.
- Develop and maintain KPI scorecards and operational reports, including cost-per-km, cost-per-unit, and depot/lane performance.
- Deliver variance analysis against budget and previous periods, accompanied by clear commentary.
- Provide accurate and reconciled financial data for CFO and manager decision-making.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow reporting activities.
- Day-to-Day Transactional Accounting:
- Manage the group's multiple Xero files.
- Run and supervise transactional accounting (AP/AR) to ensure timeliness, accuracy, completeness, and adherence to policy.
- Execute month-end close processes, including general ledger reconciliations and journal entries.
- Prepare monthly rental invoices.
- Calculate monthly fuel levy and fuel tax credits.
- Assist with Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Payroll Tax (PRT).
- Maintain fixed asset and asset finance registers.
- Provide backup support for AP/AR, payment runs, and payroll processing.
- Other Entities & Property:
- Assist with accounting for the group's other entities and its property/rental portfolio.
- Support intercompany reconciliations and trust/rental accounting.
- Share ad-hoc tasks and project work with the existing Management Accountant as directed by the CFO.
What You Will Bring:
- A degree in Accounting.
- CA/CPA qualification, or be progressing well towards one.
- 3–5 years of experience in a similar accounting or management accounting role.
- Strong Xero experience, with comfort across company, trust, rental, and share accounting.
- Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and working with large datasets.
- A reporting mindset characterised by accuracy, organisation, and the ability to transform data into clean, usable information.
- The capacity to manage competing deadlines and collaborate effectively within a two-person finance team.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in the transport, logistics, or asset-heavy industry.
- Exposure to Power BI or similar reporting tools.
- Experience with multi-entity groups.
