Mechanical Design Engineer Finisar

We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to become part of our team in Sydney.

Responsibilities:

• Design novel automated equipment for the manufacturing of advanced optical communications devices.
• Specify vision systems for assembly and inspection tasks requiring micron-level precision.
• Utilise high-technology components including precision manipulators, optical instruments, robots, and lasers.
• Collaborate with Research & Development and New Product Introduction teams to realise new product developments.
• Upgrade or redesign existing equipment to enhance yield or throughput.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• Experience in the design of automated equipment from concept, encompassing 3D modelling and detailed drawing creation.
• Experience with sensors, electric motor control, and pneumatics.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Solutions-focused approach.
• Proficiency in discussing projects internally and externally to foster collaboration in solution development and incorporate stakeholder viewpoints.

Desirable:

• A solid understanding of machine vision systems.
• Some exposure to optical products, processes, or comparable industrial settings.
• An understanding of materials employed in high-precision optical assemblies, such as epoxies, adhesives, ceramics, low-expansion metals, and optical materials.
• Experience with the Solidworks design package and PDM system.
• Experience using collaborative software tools, for example, Confluence and Jira.
• Experience applying safety standards like AS4024.1 (Safety of Machinery).

This is a full-time, onsite position based in Rosebery.
