Mechanical Designer
The Design Technology Company (DTCo) is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team in North Melbourne. This full-time, remote position offers a salary of $80,000 – $90,000 per year.
DTCo is experiencing increased customer demand and is looking for a talented Mechanical Designer with a passion for project-based 3D CAD and 2D drawing production. If you are motivated by diverse and challenging projects that require manufacturing expertise, this role may be for you.
As a Mechanical Designer at DTCo, you will transform concepts into tangible, manufacturable designs. You will apply your expertise across a range of projects and industries, ensuring compliance with industry standards and driving the successful application of Design For Manufacture (DFM) principles. You will work alongside experienced designers and engineers, with opportunities to develop your technical capability and gain exposure across various projects.
This role offers the chance to showcase your productivity and attention to detail, utilising the latest technologies to impact exciting projects for prominent Australian companies and international clients, including Defence primes, brewers, dairies, and transport manufacturers. Your ability to adapt to diverse projects will ensure a varied experience and opportunities for growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop well-structured, complex 3D CAD models.
- Produce precise engineering drawings and drafts for production.
- Ensure drawings comply with industry standards, specifications, and regulations.
- Generate comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) and material specifications.
- Design for traditional and new manufacturing processes.
- Develop and communicate technical documents and specifications for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
Baseline Requirements:
- An Australian Citizen eligible for baseline security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with relevant industry experience. Education specialising in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Structural Design Engineering will be highly regarded.
- 2–5 years’ post-graduate experience in a design engineering role.
- Proficiency in well-structured, complex 3D CAD modelling.
- Excellent engineering drawing/drafting skills for production.
- Experience with industry-standard CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Demonstrable, successful application of Design For Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- A strong ability to develop and productively communicate technical documents and specifications for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
Highly Advantageous Skills:
- Experience with laser scanning or other reality capture methods, point cloud management, and reverse engineering.
- Ability to use Configurations/Model States within CAD software.
- Advanced surfacing in CAD.
- Electrical routing in CAD.
- Ability to create Macros/iLogic tools within CAD to drive automated functionality.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in cloud-based tools such as Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive, and project management tools such as Trello, Planner or Productive.
- Experience with MRP, ERP, PDM, or PLM systems.
- A trade background and/or hands-on experience of manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with other CAD software such as Microstation, NX, etc.
