This full-time, onsite role provides technical assistance in the development, modification, installation, and implementation of mechanical systems, plant improvements, fabricated assemblies, and construction equipment used in large-scale solar farm construction projects. The Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson supports project teams through mechanical design input, equipment modification concepts, installation planning, fabrication coordination, and the development of engineering control solutions to enhance operational efficiency, constructability, and worker safety. You will work closely with supervisors, operators, fabrication personnel, and construction teams, contributing to the design, modification, installation, and practical implementation of mechanical solutions for heavy plant, piling equipment, material handling systems, and solar infrastructure construction.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing mechanical layouts, design concepts, fabrication details, and installation methodologies for construction plant, equipment, and solar farm infrastructure.
- Support the development and modification of mechanical assemblies, fabricated structures, guarding systems, and equipment improvement initiatives used throughout construction operations.
- Assist with mechanical design activities related to material handling systems, plant operation, equipment modifications, and engineered solutions for operational challenges.
- Work alongside project teams to develop practical mechanical solutions that improve constructability, operational efficiency, equipment functionality, and worker interaction with machinery.
- Assist with the assembly, installation, and implementation of new and modified mechanical systems, fabricated components, support structures, and operational equipment.
- Contribute to the selection of suitable materials, equipment, fabricated components, and installation methods for mechanical improvement projects.
- Estimate material quantities and fabrication requirements for mechanical modifications, support structures, guarding systems, and installation assemblies.
- Collect site information, measurements, operational data, and equipment requirements to assist with the development of mechanical layouts and design solutions.
- Review equipment access requirements, operational clearances, load handling considerations, installation sequencing, and constructability constraints during planning and implementation stages.
- Coordinate with fabrication personnel, operators, supervisors, and construction teams to ensure mechanical modifications and fabricated solutions are practical and suitable for field implementation.
- Assist with inspection, testing, commissioning, and ongoing review of modified equipment, fabricated systems, and engineering control measures to verify functionality and compliance.
- Ensure mechanical modifications, fabricated assemblies, and installation activities comply with project specifications, engineering requirements, Australian Standards, and workplace health and safety obligations.
What we are looking for:
- Experience supporting mechanical design, drafting, fabrication, and installation activities within construction, infrastructure, or industrial environments.
- Practical understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication processes, construction methodologies, and heavy construction plant.
- Ability to interpret engineering concepts, technical drawings, fabrication requirements, and operational specifications.
- Experience contributing to equipment modifications, fabricated assemblies, mechanical layouts, and installation systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions for operational and construction challenges.
- Experience working collaboratively with fabrication personnel, operators, supervisors, tradespeople, and project teams.
- Knowledge of constructability principles, installation sequencing, material handling requirements, and equipment access considerations.
- Understanding of engineering controls, plant safety systems, risk reduction measures, and practical implementation of mechanical improvements.
Salary: If successful, you will receive $90,000 per year.
