Role Overview:
BAE Systems has a permanent, full-time position available within the Advanced Manufacturing – Advanced Machining team. As a qualified Mechanical Maintenance Fitter, ideally with experience in Defence, Aviation, Manufacturing, or another highly regulated environment, you will join a specialist team supporting CNC machinery, automated systems, and precision equipment.
Core Duties:
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on CNC machinery, robotics, and automation systems.
- Troubleshoot and respond to breakdowns to restore equipment functionality.
- Undertake various mechanical tasks including bearing, belt, and lubrication adjustments, and guarding modifications.
- Assist with equipment installations, commissioning, upgrades, and minor mechatronic modifications.
- Maintain accurate Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) records to support planning, asset history, and reliability improvements.
- Collaborate with mechanical, engineering, production, and quality teams to optimise performance.
- Identify reliability risks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to isolation procedures, safe work practices, and all quality standards.
- Provide responsive support to production and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Mentor junior technicians and apprentices through on-the-job guidance.
- Assist engineering teams with diagnostic documentation, technical updates, and maintenance procedures.
- Review, update, and produce technical publications and test procedures.
Key Skills:
- Certificate 3 in Engineering – Mechanical or equivalent is essential.
- A High-Risk Work Licence (EWP) and LOTO/permit-to-work training are preferred.
- Experience in Defence, Aviation, Manufacturing, or other complex and highly regulated environments is required.
- A commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Mechanical maintenance experience in CNC machining, robotics, advanced manufacturing, or high-precision production environments is highly desirable.
