The Role: As a Mechanical/R&D/Product Engineer at Austworld, your responsibilities will encompass the development, refinement, and enhancement of products, components, and mechanical systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, production, quality, procurement, and operations to deliver high-quality, commercially viable solutions. This position is suited for a mid-to-senior level engineer with substantial product development experience, capable of balancing design quality with practical manufacturing and commercial considerations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical products, components, and assemblies from initial concept through to production.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Lead or support new product development initiatives, including prototyping, testing, validation, and design optimisation.
- Analyse product performance and identify areas for improvement in functionality, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and quality.
- Work closely with production and supply chain teams to facilitate successful product industrialisation and manufacturing implementation.
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection, and conduct design reviews.
- Investigate technical issues, root causes, and product failures, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Support prototype builds, testing programmes, and product verification activities.
- Ensure designs adhere to applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to develop practical, efficient engineering solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts concerning product design, engineering processes, and manufacturing outcomes.
- Provide technical input for project planning, timelines, risk assessments, and engineering change processes.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Demonstrated experience in a mechanical engineering, R&D engineering, or product engineering capacity.
- Typically, 5+ years of relevant experience in product development, mechanical design, or engineering project delivery.
- Substantial experience in designing and improving physical products or mechanical systems within a commercial or industrial setting.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar platforms.
- Experience in producing engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications, and other technical documentation.
- A solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, tolerances, assembly methods, and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, validation, and structured technical problem-solving.
- Ability to engage with the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to production support and ongoing improvement.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities coupled with a practical, solution-oriented approach.
- Good communication skills in English.
