Tailored Accounts is seeking experienced finance professionals for flexible CFO advisory engagements. This is an opportunity for individuals who wish to remain engaged, contribute value, and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

Tailored Accounts, an award-winning management accounting and business intelligence firm based in Canberra, has supported over 500 clients across not-for-profit, professional services, IT, retail, health, legal, consulting, and local government sectors for more than 18 years. We assist clients in moving beyond compliance through management accounting, CFO advisory, automation, reporting, and business intelligence solutions.

As our outsourced CFO and advisory services expand, we are looking to connect with experienced accountants, finance managers, CFOs, and commercially astute professionals who may be interested in light, regular consulting work. This is not a conventional full-time CFO position. It is designed for individuals with substantial finance experience who enjoy meaningful business discussions but prefer to avoid the pressures, politics, or demanding hours often associated with corporate finance roles.

The Role

This is a flexible CFO opportunity that can be undertaken 100% remotely. The scope of work can be adjusted to suit your preferences, ranging from a few hours per quarter for clients requiring report review and consultation, to several hours per week for more involved engagements, depending on client needs and your availability. You may choose to work with one client or multiple clients over time, with the aim of maintaining work that is flexible, practical, and enjoyable, integrating seamlessly with your lifestyle.

In this capacity, you may be involved in:

• Attending quarterly CFO, board, or management meetings with clients.
• Reviewing management reports, financial results, budgets, forecasts, and key business metrics.
• Assisting clients in interpreting their financial data.
• Providing practical commercial insights and recommendations.
• Supporting discussions on cash flow, profitability, performance, and strategic financial decisions.
• Identifying risks, opportunities, trends, and areas for business improvement.
• Coordinating with the Tailored Accounts team to ensure client reports are prepared accurately and effectively.

You will not be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, as our internal team handles accounting, reporting, and preparation tasks. Your contribution will focus on providing senior-level judgment, interpretation, and guidance during client discussions.

• Experienced accountant with strong client-facing skills

You will be well-suited to this role if you possess:

• A strong understanding of management reporting, budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and business performance.
• The ability to articulate financial information clearly to individuals without a finance background.
• The capacity to understand boardroom contexts and convey the narrative behind financial data with clarity, confidence, and commercial relevance.
• Sound commercial judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with SMEs, not-for-profits, boards, business owners, or management teams.
• Familiarity with cloud accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or similar.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both clients and our internal team.

CPA, CA, MBA, or equivalent qualifications are valued. However, practical experience, sound judgment, and confidence in client interactions are considered equally important.
