The position requires a high level of confidentiality.

Reporting to the General Manager of Human Resources, you will direct payroll operations, including the maintenance of all payroll and associated records. This includes, but is not limited to, direct payroll processing, leave calculations, termination payments, government payments, deductions, and other entitlements such as Superannuation and KiwiSaver.
  • Prepare and manage all payroll reporting obligations, including payroll reports, journals, and any other required reports for the finance department or other divisions.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax and statutory reports, such as PAYG, PAYE, BAS, superannuation, and KiwiSaver contributions.
  • Manage payroll systems, ensuring seamless integration between payroll, time and attendance, and HRIS systems.
  • Manage all company audits in a timely manner, providing accurate information and liaising with internal and external auditors, tax authorities, and other vendors/providers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, including the Fair Work Act (and its New Zealand equivalent), Modern Awards (Australia), the Holidays Act (New Zealand), WHS legislation, tax regulations, superannuation, KiwiSaver, and other statutory requirements. Communicate any changes and their impacts to the business as needed.

About You

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in payroll management for Australia and New Zealand, preferably within the retail or a similar industry.
  • Previous experience with Access Micropay, Workday, Humanforce (Time Target), and SAP is preferred.
  • Relevant payroll or accounting qualifications (e.g., CPA, CA, Diploma in Payroll Management) are preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation, tax systems, awards (the General Retail Industry Award is preferred), employment standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Previous experience managing high-volume payroll on a weekly basis.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with superior attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in approach to achieve objectives, with a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Proven experience with systems, including payroll system upgrades and changes, and a commitment to continuous process improvement.
  • Computer and finance literacy, with an intermediate level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
