The Role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer with a minimum of five years of end-to-end payroll processing experience and a strong accounting background. While formal qualifications are not essential, demonstrated practical expertise in payroll legislation, reconciliations, and financial processes is critical. This position demands a high level of attention to detail, robust compliance knowledge (particularly Australian payroll legislation), and the capacity to work independently within a structured finance environment. This role is available on either a full-time or part-time (pro-rata) basis.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll
  • End-to-end weekly payroll processing for three independent entities.
  • Interpretation and application of Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Calculation and processing of:
  • Superannuation
  • PAYG withholding
  • Overtime, allowances, bonuses
  • Terminations and redundancy payments
  • Payroll tax calculation and reconciliation
  • STP (Single Touch Payroll) reporting and compliance.
  • Processing leave accruals and adjustments.
  • Processing portable long service leave.
  • Processing weekly external labour hire timesheets.
  • Maintaining live records.
  • Managing onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Fair Work legislation
  • ATO requirements
  • Superannuation guarantee obligations
  • Payroll tax legislation (WA Base)
  • Preparation of:
  • Payroll reconciliations (monthly and year-end)
  • EOFY payroll reporting
  • Workers compensation wage declarations
  • Liaise with auditors and external stakeholders as required.
  • Accounting & Reconciliations
  • Process general ledger payroll journals.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations (wages payable, super payable, PAYG payable).
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes.
  • Support accounts payable/receivable functions where required.
  • Assist with budgeting and payroll forecasting.

The Person

  • Essential
  • A minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, including end-to-end processing.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as MYOB and ACUMATICA.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including proficiency in reconciliations, formulas, and data validation.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage confidential information.
  • Desirable
  • An accounting background or hands-on experience in finance functions.
  • Experience with new system implementation.
  • Exposure to construction or award-based industries.
