The national Building Engineering team is expanding and requires a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to fulfil a key technical and project leadership role in major building and infrastructure projects. This position, situated between Senior and Associate Director levels, is suited for an experienced engineer aspiring to take on broader leadership, client engagement, and discipline development responsibilities while remaining involved in technical delivery.

The role involves working across diverse sectors including defence, education, health, commercial, and aviation, driving high-quality fire protection solutions and contributing to national team growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead fire protection design and delivery for complex projects, from concept and detailed design through to construction support and commissioning.
  • Provide high-level technical input for wet and dry fire protection systems, including fire hydrants, hose reels, sprinkler systems, alternative suppression systems, gas suppression, detection, and EWIS/evacuation systems.
  • Oversee design compliance with the NCC, Australian Standards, and relevant authorities, ensuring robust safety, quality, and performance outcomes.
  • Serve as a key client interface, building trusted relationships, supporting project acquisition, and contributing to business development.
  • Mentor and guide engineers within the team, fostering technical capability and supporting career development.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural, and specialist engineering teams for integrated, multi-disciplinary building solutions.
  • Contribute to discipline strategy, technical standards, and continuous improvement within the national Fire Protection Engineering practice.

Qualifications and Experience: The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, though all applications will be considered.

  • Ideally, 9+ years of experience in Fire Protection/Services Engineering within an engineering consultancy or relevant government/contractor environment, with strong design and project delivery capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading medium to large, multi-disciplinary projects and coordinating project teams.
  • Strong technical capability across fire suppression systems, fire water infrastructure, fire detection, alarm, and EWIS systems, with experience in both wet and dry systems.
  • Ability to manage client relationships, contribute to bid preparation, and lead successful project outcomes.
  • Relevant engineering degree with professional accreditation (NER, RPEQ, or FPAS – Fire Systems Design) or eligibility to obtain.
  • Experience using industry-standard tools such as Hyena, Revizto, Revit, or AutoCAD.
  • Australian Citizenship is highly preferred due to project requirements.
