About the Role
Our national Building Engineering team is expanding, and we are looking for a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to assume a significant technical and project leadership capacity on major building and infrastructure projects. This role, positioned between Senior and Associate Director levels, is suited for an experienced engineer seeking to take on broader leadership, client engagement, and discipline development responsibilities while maintaining hands-on technical involvement.
You will engage with a varied project portfolio, including defence, education, health, commercial, and aviation sectors, driving high-quality fire protection solutions and contributing to the growth of our national team.
How You’ll Make a Difference
- Lead fire protection design and delivery for complex projects, from initial concept and detailed design through to construction support and commissioning.
- Provide advanced technical input for wet and dry fire protection systems, encompassing fire hydrants, hose reels, sprinkler systems, alternative suppression systems, gas suppression, detection, and EWIS/evacuation systems.
- Ensure design compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, and relevant authorities, achieving robust safety, quality, and performance outcomes.
- Serve as a primary client liaison, cultivating trusted relationships, supporting project acquisition, and contributing to business development efforts.
- Mentor and guide engineers within the team, fostering strong technical expertise and supporting their professional development.
- Collaborate effectively with mechanical, electrical, structural, and specialist engineering teams to deliver integrated, multi-disciplinary building solutions.
- Contribute to discipline strategy, technical standards, and continuous improvement initiatives across the national Fire Protection Engineering practice.
Qualities That Help You Thrive
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired. However, applications will be considered from candidates who may not meet every criterion.
- Ideally, 9+ years of experience in Fire Protection / Services Engineering within an engineering consultancy or a relevant government/contractor setting, demonstrating strong design and project delivery capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading medium to large, multi-disciplinary projects and coordinating project teams.
- Strong technical expertise in fire suppression systems, fire water infrastructure, fire detection, alarm, and EWIS systems, with experience in both wet and dry systems.
- Capability to manage client relationships, contribute to bid preparation, and lead successful project outcomes.
- A relevant engineering degree with professional accreditation (NER, RPEQ, or FPAS – Fire Systems Design) or eligibility to obtain such accreditation.
- Experience with industry-standard tools such as Hyena, Revizto, Revit, or AutoCAD.
- Australian Citizenship is highly preferred due to project requirements.
