Project Engineer - Automation
Sonder Executive is seeking a Project Engineer - Automation for a full-time, onsite position in Sydney NSW. The salary package is between $150,000 and $180,000.

Our client is a well-established Australian food manufacturer known for its iconic consumer brands, quality, innovation, and ongoing investment. They operate multiple manufacturing facilities and are dedicated to modernising operations through automation, capital investment, and continuous improvement. With approximately $80 million invested in their Sydney manufacturing facility over the last three years, the business continues to enhance its production capabilities through significant investment in automation, technology, and plant infrastructure. This role is part of that commitment, offering a key part in delivering automation-focused capital projects to shape future manufacturing operations.
The Role
Reporting to the GM of Capital, this position involves leading the automation and controls aspects of capital projects across multiple manufacturing sites, managing projects from concept through to commissioning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering automation-focused capital projects from design through to commissioning.
- Designing, developing, and implementing PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems.
- Leading automation engineering activities for plant upgrades and new equipment installations.
- Troubleshooting and optimising manufacturing control systems to enhance plant performance.
- Managing automation contractors, system integrators, and equipment suppliers.
- Collaborating with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, and NPD teams to achieve process improvements and new product initiatives.
- Developing automation standards, documentation, and operating procedures, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and compliance.
Your Background
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Degree qualifications in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience delivering automation or capital projects within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong PLC programming, HMI, and SCADA experience.
- Experience delivering projects from concept through to commissioning.
- Knowledge of industrial networks, electrical systems, and process automation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across technical and operational teams.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent problem-solving and continuous improvement capabilities.
