About the Role
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Superintendent, the Project Engineer will be integral to the Mobile Maintenance Engineering team. This role is focused on delivering engineering and capital projects that enhance equipment reliability, improve maintenance efficiency, and boost operational performance across our mining operations. You will collaborate with Reliability Engineers, Condition Monitoring Technicians, Maintenance Planners, Supervisors, and OEMs, guiding projects from their inception through to commissioning. The aim is to ensure engineering improvements are implemented safely, on schedule, and within budget, presenting a strong opportunity for an engineer keen on merging technical skills with project execution to foster continuous improvement within a substantial mobile maintenance fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Project Delivery:
- Lead engineering, reliability, and continuous improvement projects from initiation to commissioning and close-out.
- Develop project scopes, business cases, budgets, schedules, risk assessments, procurement plans, and technical documentation.
- Manage project delivery to meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
- Coordinate contractors, suppliers, consultants, and OEM representatives during project execution.
- Reliability & Continuous Improvement:
- Implement engineering solutions derived from Root Cause Analysis (RCA), condition monitoring programs, and defect elimination initiatives.
- Develop equipment modifications and engineering improvements to enhance safety, reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for maintenance cost reduction, equipment lifespan extension, and fleet performance enhancement.
- Support engineering change management and continuous improvement within mobile maintenance operations.
- Maintenance & Infrastructure Projects:
- Deliver projects related to workshop, maintenance facility, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Coordinate the installation and commissioning of maintenance equipment, tooling, lifting systems, lubrication systems, and workshop enhancements.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards and technical specifications throughout project execution.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with Reliability Engineers, Maintenance Supervisors, Planners, Operations, and Technical Services teams.
- Liaise with OEMs, contractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient and safe project delivery.
- Provide regular project updates, technical reports, and performance summaries to management.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with WHS legislation, engineering standards, company procedures, and environmental requirements.
- Participate in risk assessments, safety initiatives, and contractor management activities.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, cost tracking, procurement records, and completion reports.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Current unrestricted WA C Class Driver's Licence.
- Project Management qualification or relevant training is desirable.
- Mechanical Trade qualification or Statutory Supervisor certification is desirable.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in mining, heavy industry, maintenance, or project engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering engineering, maintenance, or capital projects.
- Experience with heavy mobile equipment and maintenance operations.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), asset management, and engineering change management.
- Experience utilising SAP PM, AMT, or similar CMMS platforms.
- Strong experience in contractor management, budgeting, and procurement.
- Excellent communication, technical reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
